How you can get this deal:
As with my review on the Turtle Bay Resort Oahu, I took fast advantage of a 90% off Expedia deal during the holiday season 2018. Unlike my experience at Turtle Bay, however, the Langham Chicago provided an incredible value.
To score a great deal like we did:
- Stay aware of promotions like this one, which granted 90% off base hotel rates made through Expedia‘s app with a coupon.
- When you see a great deal, jump on it. In our case, we live in Chicago and wanted to try the hotel. The 90% coupons sold out pretty quickly, but not before we snagged one.
- Be aware of cancellation fees. Be careful about jumping on a deal that’s completely nonrefundable.
The Langham Chicago is also part of Amex’s Fine Hotels & Resorts program, where you can get elite-like benefits and significant property credits for each stay. See how to book those hotels here in my review of The Breakers Palm Beach Florida. Also check out TPG’s ultimate guide to the FHR program.
Full Review: Langham Chicago
We stayed here as a staycation over the holidays in Chicago and absolutely loved it. The Langham is a beautiful hotel with a stunning lobby and modern rooms.
Check-in was easy. We had booked a deluxe King room and were immediately delighted with it.
Most impressive was the bathroom, which included a huge tub and a rainfall shower in the same little mini-room. Also, high-tech privacy glass separated the actual room from the shower-tub mini-room!
The bathroom was all marble, and I noticed 3 different types of tile throughout. The shower-bath mini-room is covered in mini squares, which I believe were designed to be less slippery.
The mirrors are heated so that they don’t fog up and the toilet is European in a separate water closet. You can even set your own mood music in the bathroom.
Toiletries were lovely and generous.
The decor is simple and modern, and I swear it has a calming influence. I really liked this cool buffet piece of furniture. It has a bunch of drawers with service items like coffee pods, lots of different kinds of glassware – two each of tumblers, wine glasses, champagne glasses, etc.
There’s no nastygram about using the mini-fridge for your own stuff, and we really enjoyed bringing along some of our own wine and making use of the provided glassware.
Langham Chicago is super-modern, so there was a large flat-screen TV, Bluetooth on the Bose sound system, and oodles of outlets everywhere.
I liked the little foyer/vanity area and the plush robes and umbrellas.
Review: Langham Chicago – Spa/fitness center amenities
Oh my gosh, this spa is great. A paid room rate gives you full access to the spa and fitness center at no additional charge. I loved the security. You approach the spa front desk and they sign you in and provide you a key card for access to each gender’s locker room.
This grants you access to both the fitness area and the spa.
I took a quick peek at the fitness center but didn’t use it. It seemed nice and provided nice views of Chicago. Also included is access to the indoor pool and hot tub.
The standout was the actual spa and sauna areas inside each gender’s locker room. Each locker room included a dry sauna, a wet sauna, a relaxation room, and nice shower facilities.
Bottom line
I’d stay here again in a heartbeat, and I live in Chicago! Honestly, sometimes I find myself checking rates on the Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts site to see if I can book another cheap staycation night at the Langham Chicago. If I were traveling to Chicago from another city, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay full price. But since I actually live here, I’ll just try to take advantage of low room rates when I can. Sometimes in Chicago, you can snag a really cheap room rate on a Saturday night during the winter, when no one wants to come visit!
